A Pig's Tale: Hog Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Mayor.

Although not quite at the equivalent scale as sparing Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the sheer volume of pardons issued since the commencement of a new presidential term.

“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”

The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to emulate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.

The pig, contributed by a local firefighter, was given its name from the current slang trend of young people yelling “six-seven” – deriving from a hip-hop line – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently declared “6-7” its top term for the year.

A Future Secured

Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It captures the character of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Every time, we are honored to observe tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”

Guests enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and cafecito as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
