Approximately fifty automobiles have been covered with what appears to be human blood in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Cars, walls and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Officers say they were notified late on Wednesday night, when a individual observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.
The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then discovered multiple other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Officials say initial examinations suggest the liquid was most likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no clue as to where it came from; investigators are presently not informed of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they stated.
Local authorities announced they were attempting "to unravel the case" and have asked to the public for information.
A high-ranking representative commented the attack left him speechless and required to be resolved quickly.
"This act affects the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he posted on a platform, referring to the death of nine victims by a shooter targeting people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
