Antony Price, the influential UK-based designer who crafted many legendary styles associated with David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has passed away at the age of 80.

He was celebrated for his architectural shapes and dramatic aesthetics, most notably the soft-colored suits that featured in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's seminal music video for "their hit Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message across their platforms."

This news arrives shortly after he unveiled his latest collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. Singer Lily Allen modelled a dress evoking the famous black velvet "revenge dress" once worn by Princess Diana.

An Enduring Influence

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price relocated to London at the start of the 1960s to study at the renowned Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he began designing menswear at Stirling Copper and was the creator of the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that Sir Mick Jagger sported during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show was launched by looks from supermodel Jerry Hall, who also wore the bridal gown Price created for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A long-time collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price designed the distinctive jacket the singer wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to blend menswear and womenswear along with his expert craftsmanship in designing form-fitting garments cemented his status as a "true original," in the words of the British Fashion Council.

In the 1990s, he commenced designing outfits for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, such as several ensembles for her American tour following her marriage.

Following a profession lasting over fifty years, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London recently in conjunction with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: A hallmark of his work.
  • Performative Style: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Gender-Fluid Fashion: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: Spanning iconic musicians and members of the royal family.

The industry laments the passing to a true visionary whose impact on style and culture remains profoundly felt.
