Fast bowler Atkinson Compounds England's Fitness Worries.

'Serious blow' for the touring side after Atkinson leaves the field suffering a hamstring problem.

The pace bowler increased the injury concerns plaguing England upon exiting the ground early on day two of the fourth Ashes Test versus the Australians.

Atkinson experienced discomfort in his left leg immediately following a delivery of the fourth over during the morning session.

The touring camp stated the 27-year-old felt some "soreness" and required time away from the action in order to be assessed "during the day".

The final Test of the series beginning on 4 January gets underway at the end of the week.

The English side has been without strike bowlers one seamer with a knee problem and Jofra Archer to a side strain during this series.

Matthew Fisher was called up as injury reinforcement.

His form was underwhelming during the first two matches, managing only a handful of scalps.

He was dropped from the previous Test, only to be brought back for the fourth Test to fill the void.

The county bowler showed better form in Melbourne, claiming a couple of wickets in Australia's first innings, and scoring 28 runs as a batsman being one of only three English batsmen who passed ten runs.

Following a brief spell late on the first day, he returned the next day and had nightwatchman taken by the wicketkeeper.

Yet, at the end of that over, he bowled a variation to Travis Head and immediately felt his left hamstring.

Gus Atkinson was recalled for the Melbourne match after being left out the Adelaide game.
