Instructor Fatally Shot and 25 Female Students Kidnapped in Firefight at Educational Institution in Nigeria
Weapon-carrying attackers have taken the life of an instructor and kidnapped no fewer than 25 pupils in an assault against a educational institution for young women in the northwestern part of Nigeria, authorities have confirmed.
The criminal group invaded the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Kebbi State's Maga area at approximately 04:00 local time on Monday, authorities reported.
The armed individuals "exchanged fire with security forces on duty in a gun duel" before climbing over the boundary wall and abducting the learners from their living quarters, according to a statement.
One member of staff was killed while trying to protect the students. An additional employee received firearm injuries and is now being treated medically.
Eyewitnesses described a large group of attackers, known locally as bandits, who arrived firing sporadically to create fear.
