Line of Duty Announced for 7th Season on the British Broadcaster
The acclaimed police drama Line of Duty is officially returning for its 7th installment, confirmed by the BBC.
An upcoming six-part season written by Jed Mercurio will begin filming in Belfast in the coming months, according to the production team.
The actress expressed excitement about the comeback, stating she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together soon."
The last series wrapped up in 2021 with a finale that drew in over 17 million viewers. Rumors about a potential return have been widespread for some time, but official word only arrived this week.
New Challenges for The Team
The seventh season begins with the anti-corruption unit no longer existing and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to the announcement.
Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Ted Hastings remain working to tackle misconduct within the police force.
The team's mission "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, these officers will take on their "most sensitive case so far."
Fresh Face and Complex Case
A new character, Det Insp Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer celebrated for busts of organized crime, is accused of abusing his position to become a offender.
However, his case could be a intentional diversion from a larger danger still active in the background, the teaser suggested.
In a statement, the creator commented: "Everyone involved are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."
"It's an honor to have had so many followers watch the developments of the unit over six previous seasons and we are thrilled to be coming back for a new season."
He added: "Misconduct in this country is supposed to have ended while the series was not airing, so I've been compelled to use my imagination."
Actor Responses
The Scottish actor described appearing in the series as "a job of a lifetime".
"Beyond the program's popularity but the people I've worked with I now call dear friends."
"I'm excited to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together," he added.
The Nottingham-born actress stated: "It goes without saying I'm very happy Line of Duty is returning! Eager to work with the creator, Compston and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll see you soon!"
The veteran actor commented: "As we count down the unit return, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be working together next year."
"Delighted with the announcement and looking forward to those mercurial plot developments."
Series Legacy
The drama launched in 2012 and became a highly successful television series of the last decade, featuring notable actors such as Lennie James.
The BBC has not yet announced exactly the upcoming series will hit screens.
The conclusion of season six drew the long-running storyline about the hunt for criminal mastermind known as "H" to a conclusion, and the creative team said at the moment there were no plans for additional seasons.
Nevertheless, the network announced on Tuesday that a seventh series is now in development.
