The President Calls Relatives of Shot Military Personnel to White House
Former President Trump stated on the weekend that he has asked the loved ones of a National Guard member fatally shot last week to come to the presidential home.
He added that he conversed with her family and they were “deeply grieving”.
Background on the Devastating Shooting
Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was lost her life in a shooting on last Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her colleague, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, continues receiving treatment in grave state.
Vigils across West Virginia have taken place in their honor.
White House Invitation
The commander-in-chief said he’s proposed a meeting at the presidential residence for the parents of both members of the state Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a difficult moment, arrive at the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” the president addressed reporters. “And likewise with him, recover or not.”
Public Support
Mourners assembled over the past few days at a local school in the state to remember Beckstrom.
Both they had been serving with the state guard as part of the president’s national effort to support policing efforts in the capital.
Paying Tribute to Beckstrom
“Sarah was the individual that teachers hoped for. She behaved with quiet strength, a bright grin and a positive energy that lifted people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the head of Beckstrom’s alma mater, stated to the press. “She was sweet, compassionate and always willing to help others.”
Service plans for Sarah are still being arranged.
Legal Actions and Policy Revisions
Law enforcement have charged a 29-year-old Afghan national with a charge of homicide and charges of violent assault while carrying a weapon.
The event prompted the Trump administration to pause asylum applications and cease providing entry permits to owners of Afghan passports.
Condition of Wolfe
The airman, a resident of the city, enlisted in 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, as reported by the AP.
He remains under medical supervision and is “in a critical fight”, the state’s governor Patrick Morrisey said on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
Attorney general Pam Bondi stated on Fox News Sunday that she aimed to visit Wolfe’s family.
Impact of Beckstrom
Sarah, from Summersville, graduated from her high school in June 2023 and enlisted soon after, working as a military police officer with honor, according to the military.
“She had a lot of goodness and she absolutely had fortitude,” Morrisey informed the gathering at the memorial. “Though her time ended too soon, she has left a mark that’s going to be remembered always.”
