The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Signing for United
The forward, with half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a major coup for the Women’s Super League team.
Departure from Munich was expected since she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the club's fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top strikers. According to reports, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.
Reliable Goalscoring to Boost United's Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a significant uplift to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Carrington
The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when United appear to be gathering positive momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought additional activity:
- The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
On the midfielder's extension, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the American league, added: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
