The Two Fatalities Identified in Brown University Attack as Law Enforcement Press On With Hunt for Perpetrator.

Two students who were killed in the recent mass shooting at Brown University were being remembered Monday – while an intensive search for their assailant carried on following the release by Rhode Island officials of the only individual questioned in the case.

Honoring a Lost Student

Ella Cook, a second-year student from Alabama, was described as “a wonderful, steady, devout, shining presence”, according to the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Birmingham, which offered condolences for her at a gathering on Sunday.

She served as the vice-presidency of Brown’s chapter of College Republicans of America, according to the organization. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also shared sympathies online, saying in part: “There are no words. Thinking of her family and friends, particularly her mother and father.”

The Second Victim

The other person killed was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov from Uzbekistan, a citizen of Uzbekistan in his first year of studies at the renowned school, family members said.

The victim's identification was confirmed by the foreign office of Uzbekistan.

“He was exceptionally gentle, witty, and bright. He harbored grand aspirations of entering the field of neurosurgery and assisting patients,” his sister, Samira Umurzokova said in a online post.

What Happened

An additional nine individuals were hurt in Saturday’s attack in the school of engineering of Brown’s university in Providence, during the school’s final exam period.

Authorities said late Sunday that a 24-year-old male arrested in a police operation at a Hampton Inn about around 27 kilometers from the university earlier in the day was released from custody.
