Vince Gilligan Discloses He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... Currently.
The creative mastermind never anticipated that the Apple TV+ show would become a massive hit. “The viewers have been incredible,” he states. “I did not foresee the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”
Now that Season 1 of the popular program reaching its finale—and a second season greenlit and underway—the writers' room opened up about the viewer reception and whether it will impact the future direction of Pluribus.
Regarding the Incredible Fan Response
Anyone might to get distracted by the widespread acclaim and fan theories about Pluribus. He is doing his best to avoid both.
“The experience is akin to an endless supply of your favorite dessert and being tickled to death,” he describes. “It's the greatest thing, but I get wind of it through word of mouth, and that's on purpose. I have never searched for my own name online, nor do I ever intend to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a deep trap I know I would disappear down and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from Home Depot and I'd be stuck in my living room.”
Despite trying to stay away, there’s it's impossible to ignore the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The most practical strategy is to take it in stride and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.
“It is not our goal to change the plot,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not influenced by what people are saying.”
“It's wiser to keep our heads down and working,” Gilligan concludes.
The Big Question: Will the creator Have a Plan for the Finale of Pluribus?
Given that Gilligan and his team are not listening by public opinion, can we assume they already know how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? Essentially yes… sort of.
“There are some interesting ideas about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan reveals. “but we are always ready to discard a decent plan for a more brilliant plan. That philosophy has guided us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we conceive of something superior and I imagine we will be doing that.”
Alternatively, if plans fall through, executive producer Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to serve as a last resort.
“I keep pitching that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and we're in there,” Smith jokes, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”
Then again, why not reference the iconic TV endings?
“My dream is Carol to wake up in bed next to Bob Newhart,” he jokes.
Pluribus is streaming now on Apple TV+.
